Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto instructed Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to immediately take measured steps alongside state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) to resolve ongoing power outages affecting several areas of Kalimantan.The directive was issued during a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, which also included the Head of the Development Control and Special Investigation Agency (Bappisus) Aris Marsudiyanto as well as Chief Operating Officer of Danantara Indonesia and Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Supervisory Agency (BP BUMN) Dony Oskaria.
"We just finished a limited meeting with the President. One of the primary issues discussed was the electricity supply, as we must admit blackouts are still occurring in several areas, particularly in Kalimantan," Bahlil told reporters following the session Tuesday.
"The President has ordered me to take immediate, measured steps with PLN to resolve the issue properly,” he added.
Addressing the cause of the widespread blackouts, Bahlil clarified that the disruptions stem from technical maintenance and grid network issues rather than a fundamental shortage of fuel or energy supply.
"According to information from PLN, it was related to maintenance, not an energy supply issue. In fact, reports suggest network-related factors were also involved," Bahlil noted, assuring the public that the government aims to restore full grid stability in the near future.

The presidential order comes as PLN works to accelerate recovery operations across the Kalimantan Interconnection System, following technical failures that hit key generation facilities supplying South and Central Kalimantan.
According to Iwan Soelistijono, General Manager of PLN's South and Central Kalimantan Main Distribution Unit, the disruptions were triggered by operational failures at the Asam-Asam coal-fired power plant, alongside boiler and turbine pipe leaks across two Independent Power Producer (IPP) facilities.

The combined technical faults severely reduced grid capacity, forcing temporary supply limitations across the two provinces.
PLN confirmed that specialized field crews and power plant operators are working to restore the affected units as quickly as possible.
The utility company has also issued an official apology for the widespread inconvenience and called on consumers for patience as technical teams finalize repairs to stabilize the regional power grid.
